The best proven method for determining whether a battery will perform is to test it under load conditions. Proper load testing is the only way to determine where the battery resides on its expected life curve. The Alber BCT-2000 capacity test system will test any battery in service today.

Load testing is essential for any storage battery system that protects equipment or a critical service. Because the battery is almost always the least reliable component, load testing with the BCT-2000 should be done on a regular basis to ensure reliability. The BCT performs battery load tests using load banks or, in some cases, the actual system load.


Capacity Test
The BCT-2000 performs a capacity test using a programmed, constant current or constant power load. This test predicts reliability and remaining battery life before replacement is necessary.

Integrity Test
An integrity test, using a high current momentary load, lets you identify weak cells and conduction paths.

Data Acquisition Module and Data Logging Unit
The BCT is a combination load control and data logging system consisting of a data acquisition module and a laptop computer data logging unit. The data acquisition module acquires all cell voltage, overall string voltage, and current readings and is available in 128 cell and 256 cell versions. The computer data logging unit displays the programming parameters for the test.

The BCT's proprietary interface circuits and custom software control all standard Alber continuous and momentary load units. The standard BCT-2000 can be programmed to apply a constant current or constant power load on any battery string up to 600VDC. During a load test, the system records overall voltage, load current, and up to 256 cell voltages. Programmable alarm levels warn of low voltages and can automatically pause testing before any cell reaches reversal or an unsafe state.

The Continuous Load Unit (CLU) provides the load during a capacity test. It may be used with the BCT-2000, the BDS monitor, or stand-alone with the Manual Control Box. Load units may be ordered in standard configurations or built to individual customer needs. Configuration and design of the resistive elements let the user adjust the load in small increments through the entire test system capacity.

The load units may be used with any Alber data logging and load control unit, or stand-alone. Together, the two instruments create a system capable of providing a maximum range of configurations tailored to customer needs.

Each CLU is housed in an aluminum enclosure with expanded metal sides and top for excellent ventilation. This enclosure is mounted on lockable, hard rubber casters for portability. The conservative rating of the load resistors and the fan cooling system keep the frame from reaching excessive temperatures.

All continuous load devices are rated in constant current, but can be used for constant power testing when used with the AlberBCT-2000 battery capacity test system. Standard units are available from 21VDC to 270VDC. Custom load units for voltages outside this range can be readily designed and manufactured.

Testing a single cell at a time is practical when a suspect cell has been identified by either voltage, specific gravity or internal resistance measurement. The single cell test approach avoids the over-testing of remaining cells and is often used in the telephone and nuclear industries.

The Perfect Match for the Cellcorder
Designed for 2 volt cells, the SCT is the perfect complement to the Cellcorder. After the Cellcorder identifies a potentially bad cell, the SCT assesses absolute battery capacity using a load test compliant with IEEE. Automatic operation and safety circuits let you program the unit and start the test.

System Description
The cell under test may be programmed for a discharge current up to 650 amps (SCT 600) or 1200 amps (SCT 1200) down to an end voltage of 1.75 volts. After cell discharge is complete, the programmable charger initiates the charge cycle. The maximum charger current is 120 amps. The charger is internally current limited to 150 amps. The SCT can be used with the cell on-line. The SCT package includes the discharge/charge unit, load cables, and Windows software. An optional laptop computer is available.

A Report Generator is Included
The Report Generator included with the SCT software reads test data files generated by the SCT program and creates reports. Using the Report Generator, you can customize your reports and include graphs that show detailed test data. After you create the report, save it in an archive format to protect it against changes and ensure information integrity, then forward it to clients who can view it with the stand-alone viewer.

The Cellcorder CRT-400 is Alber's newest handheld cell voltage and resistance tester. This exciting addition to Alber's test, diagnostic and trending products measures and records cell float voltage, internal cell resistance, and intercell connection resistance.

Another exciting feature is a new USB port and Flash drive that allows quick transfer of data files to a computer. Using the Alber Battery Analysis Software, test results can be displayed and analyzed to determine battery state of health. The Flash drive also doubles as an interim storage device until test data is saved permanently.

The Cellcorder CRT-400 comes with a 256M Flash drive, resistance and voltage test leads, carrying case, AC charger, and data trending and analysis software. An optional printer is available.


Accurate Data in a Fraction of Normal Test Time
The Cellcorder cell resistance tester displays and records cell float voltage, internal cell resistance, and intercell connection resistance. A compatible hydrometer lets you transfer specific gravity and temperature data using the IR port.

Use the Cellcorder on a single cell or multicell modules. The Flash drive allows virtually unlimited data storage. Use the Flash drive or IR port to transfer readings to a PC for analysis and report generation.

The high contrast, 128 x 64 pixel, backlit graphical display shows menus and test results. A fully charged Cellcorder can test for seven hours, and isolated operation helps ensure safety and makes the Cellcorder easy to move around.


System Features
Float Voltage Readings - The Cellcorder measures the voltage applied during full float operation. The voltage range covers all cells or modules up to 20 volts, with accuracy to four full digits.

Internal Cell Resistance - Using a patented process, the Cellcorder applies a momentary load and calculates internal cell resistance by determining instantaneous voltage drop and load current. Algorithms make this measurement possible on cells floating on-line or off-line.

Intercell Resistance - The Cellcorder measures the resistance between two electrically connected cell terminals. The measurement consists of connector resistance and contact resistance at the points of connection to the cell terminals.

Auto Ranging - The Cellcorder automatically selects the correct voltage range, load resistor, and test time.

Data Extraction and Analysis - After testing, transfer data to the PC via Flash drive or IR interface. Trending software analyzes test data, displays results in graph or tabulated formats, and saves and prints reports. You may export reports in ASCII, Excel or comma-delimited format so other programs can generate customized reports.

DMA35
The Anton-Paar DMA35 is a handheld, stand-alone digital density meter suitable for use in demanding industrial environments. Simply press a lever and, within seconds, the temperature, density, specific gravity, or percent concentration of the sample is displayed. To save the data, press a button; up to 1,024 data points may be stored in the instrument. (P/N 2900-042)

Weighing in at 10 ounces, the DMA35 digital hydrometer won't tire you out, no matter how many samples you must measure. And the DMA-35 delivers up to 90 hours of service on two alkaline 1.5 volt AAA batteries.

DMA35-CRT

The CVR+ cell voltage recorder by Alber directly measures and records cell float voltage, uploads temperature and specific gravity (SG) measurement data from a DMA35 or DMA35N digital hydrometer, and downloads data to a computer running the Alber Battery Analysis Software (BAS). It was specially designed to strictly comply with IEEE standards for testing batteries. You'll save by taking and analyzing more readings in less time.

The high contrast 160 x 128 pixel graphical OLED color display shows menus and test results. A fully charged CVS+ can test for 15 hours, and isolated operation helps ensure safety and makes the CVR+ easy to move around.

The CVR+ displays cell float voltage, temperature and SG readings, charts and graphs on the color display. Test data quickly transfers to a computer, where Alber Battery Analysis Software analyzes battery state of health. An optional compatible hydrometer lets you transfer specific gravity and temperature data using the IR port or RS232 cable. You'll find that the CVR+ is one of the easiest ways to perform battery maintenance.
